Recently, the Real Estate Buyers Agents Association of Australia (REBAA) conducted an interview with Dr. Jenny Jia, Founder and Director of JL Property Buyers Agent. The interview was featured in REBAA’s E-news and shared via its LinkedIn platform.

Jenny’s professional and cultural background is compelling, having earned qualifications across multiple disciplines which she applies in her business dealings. 

 

•             How long have you been a buyers' agent and what inspired you to become one?


After working as a Spatial Scientist for more than 15 years, I moved from Beijing, China, to Melbourne Australia with the hope of starting a new career in the property industry. I spent three years earning a Master of Property degree at the University of Melbourne to facilitate my transition from IT to property. During this time, I realized that working as a buyer’s agent was the best career path for me, as I had been investing in property for 20 years and had achieved great results for my family.

I am highly analytical and numerically inclined, and I enjoy conducting property investment analysis. I feel a tremendous sense of achievement when my expertise helps property buyers reach their life and financial goals.

As a result, three years ago, I took the leap and established my own business as a buyer’s agent, and I have been dedicated to this profession ever since.


•             What do you love most about your job and the profession?


In my work, what I love most are evaluation and negotiation—evaluation is about understanding both value and the market,     while negotiation is about seizing opportunities after making a complex decision based on that understanding. Nothing is more exciting than securing the best deals for my clients.

On top of that, this job gives me the opportunity to connect     with high-net-worth individuals. By helping them purchase property, I gain valuable insights, learn about the factors behind their success—which is truly fascinating—and further broaden my horizons.


•             When did you join REBAA and why did you decide to join?


We joined REBAA in April 2024. Since the majority of our clientele is Chinese, I believe it is even more important not to be confined to our own culture. We need to learn from our industry peers—how they do their job, how they understand the market, and how they assist their clients.

Moreover, I believe that being a member of REBAA is a recognition of our professionalism and ethical standards. It also serves as a constant reminder to uphold our values and strive for excellence, which in turn enhances our credibility and strengthens our business.


•             How do you think REBAA will benefit you and your business going forward?


Within the Chinese community, many buyers need professional, trustworthy buyer’s agents who understand both Eastern and    Western cultures to help them purchase the right property. However, they often struggle to identify the right buyer’s agent.

REBAA is a highly respected industry association, and being a member enhances our credibility and professional recognition. At the same time, the training programs and networking events organized by REBAA continuously enhance our expertise, ensuring that we remain at the forefront of the industry.


•             What do you see as the future of buyers' agency as a profession?


Buying a property may seem simple, but it is far from easy. Just as people seek professional assistance for legal and tax matters, a buyer’s agent plays a crucial role in guiding clients through the significant decision-making process of property purchasing. From this perspective, the buyer’s agency industry holds vast potential.

However, the market penetration of buyer’s agents in real estate transactions remains relatively low. This is partly because their value is not yet fully recognized and partly because buyers struggle to identify trustworthy professionals among the many options available. As a result, many are left with no choice but to navigate the process on their own.


•             How do you think buyers' agents can best promote our profession to the wider public?


To some extent, this is an industry that lacks trust. To earn buyers' trust, we must consistently do the right thing and let results     speak for themselves. Finding the right property for every client is the best form of promotion.

This is what we have always done, while also sharing our values on social media. At the same time, we remain committed to continuous learning and improving our professional expertise, ensuring that our clients experience our independence, professionalism, and warmth throughout  the service process.
